Joyful Kneads Bakehouse
A LITTLE JOY IN EVERY BAKE.
My love for feeding people began long before I ever mixed flour and water.
I grew up inspired by my parents, who owned Don’s BBQ, a beloved restaurant that opened
in the 1950s in Anderson, Indiana. With over 300 seats, it was more than just a place
to eat — it was a true community hub. Neighbors gathered, families celebrated and
friendships were formed around shared meals. Feeding the town brought my
parents immense joy and hospitality was simply a way of life in our family.
After their passing, something unexpected happened as I began my own baking journey — my connection to them felt stronger than ever. Cooking and baking for others has always been part of who I am.
For years, my family and friends have gathered around my table, nourished by homemade food and meaningful connection.
When I became an empty nester, I felt a calling to do more than my 9–5 job. I wanted my work to matter. I wanted to make a difference.
I purchased my very first sourdough starter in Indiana while celebrating my mother’s life after her passing. I activated that starter on Father’s Day weekend — a moment that felt deeply symbolic. Six months later, Joyful Kneads Bakehouse was born, and I found myself
baking for my community, meeting new friends and
sharing the simple, wholesome joy of sourdough.
What I didn’t expect was how deeply this bakehouse would strengthen the connection
between my husband and me. Joyful Kneads is truly a family effort. From washing endless dishes and helping behind the scenes to enthusiastically promoting our bread and
supporting every early morning bake, his encouragement has been constant.
Together, we’ve discovered that building something meaningful side by side has
brought us closer and added even more joy to the process.
Joyful Kneads Bakehouse is more than bread. It’s a continuation of a
family legacy — one built on feeding people, bringing them together, and creating
something meaningful with our hands and hearts. Every loaf carries a story of love,
tradition, partnership, and community, and we’re honored to share it with you.
